Introduction: Information and Communication Technologies (ict) have brought great
benefits. However, they can also cause serious problems because of their excessive
use. Teenagers are considered a population at risk due to their characteristics and
because they are the ones who most use icts. The objective of this research is to
analyse the use of a set of technologies by adolescents and to find out if there is an
abuse of icts in this population. Method: Participants were 47 students of one specific
high school in the province of Castellon. The detection of new addictions questionnaire
(dena) by Labrador, Becoña and Villadangos (2008) was administered. Results: Re-
sults showed an extended use of the Internet, mobile phone and television among
teenagers, as 91.5%, 89.1% and 76.1% respectively use these technologies daily. In
addition, a 46.7% for the Internet and 65% for mobile phone use from 3 to 6 hours per
day. Moreover, a high percentage of problems resulting from the use of the Internet and
mobile phone were found, as 6.4% and 8.5% respectively have always perceived prob-
lems of use. Also, significant correlations between frequency of use and frequency of
perceived problems were found on the Internet (p = 0.043; r = 0.296), video games
(r = 0.588; p = 0.000) and television (r = 0.355; p = 0.017). Conclusions: The study
shows that it is necessary to disseminate guidelines for a healthy use of icts and to
continue studying this problem
It’s Your Lucky Day).
2010).Introduction. In Spain, the prevalence of Pathological Gambling (PG) is around 2 %
and 3 % of adults (e.g., Becoña, 1999), representing a significant problem in youth and adolescents (Becoña, 2010). For this reason, it is necessary to devote efforts in preventing this problem, especially in this population. In this line, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTS) may have a key role in preventing, assessing and treating PG. The aim of this study was to conduct a review of the use of ICTS in the field of pathological gambling prevention among young and adolescent. Method. We searched in databases as PsycInfo, ISI Web of Knowledge, Scopus y Springer Link. Results. Six
prevention programs for PG among young and adolescent were found, as well as 4
studies in Canada that used ICTS (vídeos and interactive presentations) for brief interventions to prevent gambling. Only 1 study that used ICTS to apply a prevention program for PG (It’s Your Lucky Day) was found. In Spain, no study about the prevention
for PG and ICTS was found. Conclusion. The results show that the use of ICTS for PG
prevention among youth and adolescents is scarce. The use of ICTS may be a promising
line of research due to the advantages arising for this specific population (e.g., Heider
& Massanari, 2010)
Introduction:
Gambling disorder implies a problematic, persistent and recurrent gaming behaviour, and significant losses of money, which expose a person to negative consequences in social, professional and individual terms. A series of elements involved as predisposed factors and related variables exist in gambling disorders. This study analysed the emotional regulation and impulsivity variables related to gambling behaviour. Method: An exploratory study with 12 patients who belong to the patim Association (Association for Intervening and Integrating Addictions and Other Behaviours) was carried out. The participants completed a questionnaire for screening addiction to gaming, the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (ders) and the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (biss-11). Results: Scores went above the normative score for the emotional regulation variable for both the total score and subscales. However for impulsiveness, scores were below the standard score. The Focus Group results showed the impact of emotions on such behaviour. Conclusions: The present study reveals that emotional regulation difficulties are very important in pathological gambling. Conversely with impulsivity, no scores were obtained above the cut-off score measure in the normal population in the study pathological gambling sample. In short, the relevance of handling emotions suggests the importance of developing emotional regulation as a proposal of treatment strategies

Virtual reality in the treatment of pain
Many medical procedures produce acute pain that in most cases is quite disturbing for the individual.
Medication is the treatment of choice for acute pain. However, given the involvement of psychological aspects
in the experience of pain, psychological techniques are being used as an effective adjunct to alleviate pain
related to medical procedures. In the last years a new technology is demonstrating an enormous potential in
this field: Virtual Reality (VR) distraction. In this article we review studies that explore the efficacy of immersive
VR distraction in reducing pain related to different medical procedures. We include clinical studies and
analogue studies with healthy participants. We discuss the results achieved by these studies and recommend
future directions of VR pain control research
Acceptability of positive technologies by patients with eating disorders: Results from a Randomized Control Trial
The present study is aimed to analyze acceptability ratings of positive technologies reported by patients with eating disorders. 54 patients were enrolled in a randomized control trial with two experimental conditions. In the intervention group (n=29), participants performed the best possible self exercise, through positive technologies, for one month. Likewise, participants in the control group (n=25) had to write about their daily activities also through technology. Acceptability levels were rated at the end of the one-month training. Results showed that participants of both conditions reported appropriate levels of satisfaction with the exercises and the technologies and they also perceived the exercises as useful. These results suggest that positive technologies can serve as a supporting tool delivering interventions aimed to improve positive emotions and well-being in clinical samples
Experiencing positive emotions promotes open and flexible thinking and strengthens us
against adversity. In the field of positive psychology different strategies that boost the
appearance of positive emotions have been developed. One of these interventions is
to imagine the Best Possible Self, a positive future thinking technique that consists in
visualizing a future where everything has gone the best possible way. The goal of the
present study is to analyze the efficacy of this intervention increasing the appearance
of positive emotions and optimism, using Information and Communication Technologies
(ICTs) to maximize their effects. This is a one session preliminary experimental study,
with a sample of 12 individuals (M=23.4 years) recruited from the general population. In
order to analyze the results, measures of affect (PANAS) and future expectancies (SPT)
were administered before and after each manipulation. Regarding affect, results show
a significant increase in positive affect after the session. On the contrary, in the measures
of future expectancies, results show a non-significant decrease in negative future
expectancies at the end of the session
Exploring the relationship between the acceptability of a Flying phobia treatment delivered via the Internet and clinical outcomes
Acceptability (i.e. patients' expectation and satisfaction with the treatment) is claimed as an important and additional criterion besides efficacy. Nevertheless, the literature addressing this issue in the field of Interet-based treatments for specific phobias is scarce, and no studies for Flying Phobia (FP) are available. This study aims to explore the relationship between expectations and satisfaction with treatment and clinical variables in patients who have received an Intemet-based treatment for FP (NO-FEAR Airlines). The sample included 46 participants from a randomized controlled trial. Clinical measures were: Fear of Flying Questionnaire-II, Fear of Flying scale, Fear and Avoidance Scales, Clinician Severity Scale, and Patient's Improvement Scale. Results showed significant correlations between expectations, satisfaction and the change on different clinical variables. Patients' expectations significantly correlated and predicted satisfaction with the treatment. Results also revealed that satisfaction with the treatment remained as a significant predictor of the change on all clinical variables. In sum, this study offers data on the relationship between acceptability measurements and clinical variables in patients receiving an Internet-based treatment for FP
dirigidas a promover estados emocionales positivos.
», «well-being», «positive psychology» y «happiness».
Dichas intervenciones incluyen estrategias cognitivas y conductuales simples,
elementos positivos en lo sucedido (Vázquez y Pérez Sales, 2003).Experiencing positive emotions, like joy and contentment, holds numerous social, intellectual
and physical benefits for the individual (Sheldon & Lyubomirsky, 2006). A high
variety of studies have analysed the efficacy of different interventions aimed to boost
positive emotional states. The goal of this study is to review the main positive interventions
targeting to improve well-being. We have carried out a literature review over the
last decade through several databases, combining different keywords: Positive interventions,
well-being, positive psychology, and happiness. This research has resulted in
a series of self-administered interventions aimed to promote positive emotions. These
interventions involve simple cognitive and behavioural strategies, such as: writing gratitude
letters, performing acts of kindness, and identifying personal strengths, among
others (Layous & Lyubomirsky, 2012). Moreover, it has been proven that certain characteristic
of the activities and some personal factors can affect the efficacy of the interventions
(Vazquez, et al., 2006). The research on this topic shows that these strategies
are effective as they increase psychological well-being and decrease depressive
symptoms (Sin & Lyubomirsky, 2009). At a clinical level, these strategies could help
increasing the efficacy of the current psychological treatments and could improve the
relapse prevention programs (Vázquez, et al., 2006). In this sense, Positive Psychology
can provide a better resistance against intense stressors when those who suffer perceive,
apart from the negative consequences, some positive elements in what has happened
(Vázquez & Pérez Sales, 2003)
